Online Meeting Expectations

Before Signing On:

- Be ready for the day! Be sure to get out of bed, use the restroom, dress, and eat. If you’re not ready, I will ask you to sign off and get ready before rejoining.

- Find a quiet, comfy place to sit, and secure your device in a stationary position. Once secured, please do not move it for the duration of the meeting (this cuts down on visual noise and supports group focus). Devices should be plugged in or fully charged.

- Think about the question of the day (questions will be posted in Google Classroom).

- Review in your mind the previous day’s reading.

- If it’s a reading group meeting, gather materials (we may not have materials for the first week)

- Put toys and other distractions far away until the end of the meeting. You may use a fidget to help you concentrate, but if your fidget shows up on the screen, or otherwise creates a distraction for yourself or others, you will be asked to put it away. If I have to ask too many people too often, fidgets will cease to be an option.

After Signing on-

- Avoid monkeying with the Chat and Background features. Basically, avoid monkeying with any of the features! You can goof around during non-class online meetings with friends or family.

- Position yourself and your screen so that your head is in full view, but your body is not. We should only see your face, neck, and very upper torso.

- Keep a quiet, still body during all share and discussion times. Stay seated as requested above, except for the read aloud time, during which you can lay down and relax.

- During all share and discussion times, keep your eyes on the speaker. If you are the speaker, keep your eyes on the audience.

- Actively participate, whether speaking or listening! You will be in charge of muting and unmuting yourself to speak. Please only unmute yourself when it is your time to speak, and then re-mute yourself immediately after you finish with your turn. This will help to cut out ambient background noise.

- If you have a question, or want to interject a comment, please push the blue “raised hand” button.

- If you want to show support or excitement, you can use the yellow “thumbs up” and “applause” buttons.

-Remain focused on the topic at hand. We can work some opportunities in for those of you who want to meet and chat informally with friends, but from Monday forward, our daily scheduled meetings need to be on task.
